The Cook Government’s announcement today that it will increase current and future indexation rates for Non-Government Human Services to account for increases to the superannuation guarantee is welcome relief for the sector, after a period of sustained advocacy by the WA Council of Social Service (WACOSS) and Community Employers WA (CEWA).
WACOSS CEO Louise Giolitto said: “WACOSS would like to thank the Cook Government for taking a common sense approach to this issue. “Community services have been under incredible financial pressure in recent years and while the amended indexation rate still falls short of covering the true cost of delivering community services, this increase will mean services can keep operating and making a difference to the lives of vulnerable people.” CEWA Executive Director Tim Grey-Smith said: “The exclusion of superannuation changes to the current indexation framework has been an oversight in the policy for some time and has been placing unnecessary financial pressure on an already stretched sector. “Including superannuation guarantee changes in future indexation is a very welcome move and we hope that this is a sign that the Cook Government is committed to funding the true cost of delivering community services.” |
