The Western Australian Council of Social Service is the peak body of community service organisations and individuals in Western Australia. WACOSS stands for an inclusive, just and equitable society. As the peak body for the Western Australian community service sector, we believe that communities flourish where people are given the opportunity to contribute and create. We are committed to enabling and leading change that supports healthy, active and inclusive communities.
To create equitable and empowered communities WACOSS works with its members to advocate with and on behalf of those who are the furthest from levers of power and influence, to amplify their concerns and seek justice, to create a society that genuinely works for the benefit of all.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The WACOSS Advocacy Lead is an exciting and important role, leading the efforts of the organisation to advocate for a more socially just and equitable society. You will build and maintain relationships with key WA Government decision makers, provide strategic advocacy advice to our executive team, provide narrative support to our communication activities, and lead our campaigning efforts.
The right candidate for this role will care deeply about the issues facing WA’s most vulnerable people, but will remain eternally optimistic about the opportunities for change. You will have an excellent network within the WA Government and will be tenacious but empathic in your advocacy efforts. You will understand the difference between policy and politics, understand the WA and Federal political environment and know how to identify the right opportunities at the right time. You will have the ability to work independently but can build a team around you.
