ERO Bites into Services

The impact on sustainability of services is starting to be felt across the sector due to the eight years of pay increases following the Equal Remuneration Order in 2012. A new report from the Curtin Not-for-Profit Institute, commissioned by WACOSS in partnership with Community Employers WA and proudly supported by Lotterywest, shows that 65% of programs run by organisations surveyed were negatively impacted.

Exciting New Role at WACOSS – Deputy CEO.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer, is a newly created role at WACOSS. The position will oversee the organisation’s social policy, special projects and business development work.  The closing date for applications is 9.00am Wednesday, 21 June 2017.

Conference Speaker announced - Dr. Vinita Godinho.

Presenting at the Community Relief and Resilience Conference, Dr. Godinho will be explaining how a multi-agency and collaborative approach across the sector can contribute towards much larger, holistic solutions for clients.

Best Practice Collaboration.

WACOSS congratulates our partners at the WA Housing Authority on being shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Practice in Collaboration Between Government and Non-Government Organisations category of the 2017 IPAA Awards.

Service Priority Review Identifies Major Themes.

The State Government’s Service Priority Review panel has identified three major themes, drawn from its Terms of Reference, that are shaping its work on the functions, culture and operations of the WA public sector.

Early Years Resource for Local Governments Launched.

A new resource has been launched to support partnerships between local governments and Early Years Networks to achieve positive outcomes for children and families in Western Australia.

SAVE THE DATE – WACOSS Special General Meeting - 30 August.

WACOSS will be formally calling for a Special General Meeting to be held on Wednesday, 30th August 2017 addressing changes to the WACOSS constitution. Please save the date until the formal notice and relevant motions are issued prior to the meeting.

WACOSS welcomes members to renew their membership for 2017-2018.

Members can expect a few changes to membership in the upcoming financial year including the introduction of membership numbers, changes to eNews benefits for individual members and many more.

Conference Speakers Announced – Professor Maria Harries and Renna Gayde.

The Community Relief and Resilience Conference has secured Professor Maria Harries and Renna Gayde from the University of Western Australia to present their findings from a study into the outcomes for children involved with statutory bodies, and what international research is telling us about the role of poverty in this.

Community Relief and Resilience Conference 2017 Attendance Subsidies available.

For those organisations that need help with travel costs from regional and remote areas and volunteers involved in emergency relief service, subsidies are available to attend this year's Community Relief and Resilience Conference.

Foundations in Governance - 13 June.

This workshop will cover the quality management cycle, principles, standards and reporting in order to set up effective standards and processes across the organisation
 
 

Delivering Great Service - 21 June. 

Providing a good service to your consumers and stakeholders is very important in the community services sector. This course will look at some key communication and customer service skills to assist you deliver great service. 

Facilitation skills - Full day - 22 June.

This highly interactive and experiential course will assist new and experienced facilitators build on their skills, reflect on their own approach and leave with some fresh ideas.
 
 

Introduction to Crowdfunding - June 20. 

This webinar will introduce you to both the theory and practice of crowdfunding, dispelling misconceptions, exploring case-studies and giving you the knowledge you need to successfully launch or expand your project.

Paris agreement remains in Australia's interest.

The Agreement has attracted strong participation and support worldwide, and is a useful tool to spur and sustain global efforts over coming decades as the world transitions towards net zero emissions. Its success in limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees is firmly in Australia’s interests.

Government tries to slash incomes of the nations poorest, again - ACOSS.

The Australian Council of Social Service urges the Parliament to again stand up against the latest attempt by the Turnbull Government to cut the incomes of people who have the very least in the country.

As reported by the ABC, a Perth program is feeding the needy by rescuing excess produce from supermarkets. Meet Food Rescue. A small army of Perthians whose efforts are helping more than 11,000 people secure a meal each week.
