Federal budget attacks those on welfare yet again.

The WA Council of Social Service has slammed the welfare provisions in 2017 Federal Budget as unfair and unnecessary, while welcoming modest steps on affordable housing, health and education.
Louise Giolitto, CEO of WACOSS said, “What we have seen tonight is more pointless nastiness directed to those on income support.”

 

WA Treasury Economic Data - WACOSS Considerations.

WA Governments election commitments are included in the costing and economic forecasts in Treasury's latest Economic and Fiscal Outlook publication. Advice WACOSS has been given is that the election commitments will be the only new expenditure items in the coming budget.

Financial Assistance available for Community and Resilience Conference 2017.

Organisations that need help with travel costs from regional and remote areas and volunteers involved in emergency relief service can get financial assistance to attend this years Community Relief and Resilience Conference.

Roles of Community Services in reducing Tobacco Use - 8 June

 
'It takes only 3 minutes to talk to your clients about their smoking habits as part of your routine care.'
This half day workshop will equip staff with the capacity to support clients to cut down and eventually quit using tobacco products.  This workshop involves intervention training as well as identifying client referral pathways and support.
Only $55 for WACOSS members.
 

Introduction to Residential Tenancy for Community Support Workers 14 - 15 June

Tenancy WA is delivering a 2 day introduction to tenancy law for community support workers.  The introduction will assist you in becoming familiar with the legislation that governs residential tenancies, discuss best practice in supporting tenants, navigate and understand dispute processes and legal remedies and will enable you to learn from industry peers.
 

Assertive Communication - 17 May 

Find it difficult to be assertive? Find it difficult to say no? Does this result in conflict in your relationships or workplace? Assertive communication will help you to reduce workplace conflict, assist you with the skills to speak up at meetings and deal with difficult conversations.  In turn, these skills will assist with strengthening your self esteem and reducing your anxiety.  
 

Workforce Planning - 18 May  

What is workforce planning and why is it necessary?  The Social Services sector faces several challenges driven by changing client needs and increased demand for services.  Being able to coordinate and plan your staffing levels to meet these challenges is crucial in effective service delivery.  This course will look at the six steps in successful workforce planning.
