Climate Change Readiness for Community Services Program
The Climate Change Readiness for Community program is a joint initiative between the Western Australian Council of Social Service and the WA Peaks Forum. It was established as part of the Federal Governments Jobsfund scheme, which aims to increase employment in areas in Australia worst affected by the economic downturn. The Climate Change Readiness for Community Services project was an initiative of the WA Peaks aimed at increasing employment opportunities in the South Metropolitan Region whilst providing benefits to the community service sector.
Climate Change Readiness for Community Services, as the name suggests, harnesses the growing energy and greenhouse industry to not only provide employment for job seekers, but to prepare the community services sector for changes associated with climate change. Participants will be provided with skills to work in the energy and greenhouse sector and use these to advise Western Australian community organisations of strategies to minimise the costs associated with increasing energy tariffs and any future Emissions Trading Scheme or Carbon Tax. The project is funded by Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

WA Environment Award Winner 2010
The Climate Change Readiness for Community Services project was the recipient of the Department of Environment and Conservation WA Environment Award for the Community Energy Efficiency Category. This award celebrates the excellent work that has been put in by the project staff, auditors and the community services who have engaged with WACOSS in this project.
