Low income energy efficiency program

February 10, 2012

The Federal government has called for expressions of interest for the Low Income Energy Efficiency Program. The Low Income Energy Efficiency Program has been established to provide grants to consortia of government, business and community organisations to trial new and innovative approaches to assist low income and vulnerable households overcome identified barriers to energy efficiency and to better manage their energy use. Trials under the program should be aimed at overcoming barriers to energy efficiency, such as information failure, capital constraints and split incentives, which prevent low income households from adopting more energy efficient practices.

Applications need to consist of a consortium that possesses all the relevant skills and attributes required to deliver a successful project. This may include but is not limited to the following:

  • Community organisations
  • Energy companies
  • State, territory and local governments
  • Manufacturers, suppliers and installers of energy efficient technologies
  • Financial institutions
  • Research institutions
Interested groups need to submit their applications to the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency by the 16th of March 2012. Applicants may apply for up to $10 million dollars in funding.
For more information you can download the guidelines, or visit the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency’s website to register for their webinar and stakeholder information session which will be held in Perth on Wednesday 15 February 2012.
