The Western Australian Government’s State Budget drives a key element of WACOSS’ social policy and advocacy work. Our activities have two main focuses: the development of a Pre-Budget Submission on behalf of the not-for-profit community services sector and a Post-Budget analysis of the impact for the community services sector and the people they serve.
The WACOSS Pre-Budget Submission outlines the key priority recommendations for how the WA Government should allocate funding to meet the immediate and pressing needs of the community and plan for the longer term social advancement of Western Australia. The Pre-Budget Submission is built on the expertise and experience of the not-for-profit community services sector and is derived from broad consultation with representative peak bodies and agencies from across the community, including consultations in regional centres.
Each year WACOSS also prepares an accompanying Issues Paper or Consultation Report which provides a detailed exploration of the priority issues listed in the Pre-Budget Submission.
Our Post-Budget analysis is tabled in Parliament and primarily looks at the likely impact of planned government expenditure on disadvantaged Western Australians. The analysis also addresses the implications for the community service organisations themselves. Much of this analysis forms the first step in the process to develop our Pre-Budget Submission for the following year.
