Water
Water services are essential service to maintaining life, wellbeing and general community health and hygiene standards.
Increased water costs have a significant impact on all consumers. However, the extent of this impact upon low income households and people experiencing financial disadvantage is disproportionate in comparison to the wider community. Restricted access to water where the consumer has a genuine incapacity to pay or is experiencing financial hardship has the potential to cause people to go without other essential services in an effort to become or stay connected. Therefore it is essential that appropriate consumer protection measures are in place, to ensure that the rights of water consumers are guaranteed.
WACOSS represents the interests of water consumers through direct advocacy with water retailers, government and the regulator to ensure that regulatory arrangements, retailer interaction with customers, and hardship and other consumer protections, continue to improve in the interest of maintaining a constant supply of water to all Western Australian homes.
