WACOSS WA State Election Website

The WA State Election will be held on Saturday 9 March 2013. This is the first time WA will be holding an election based on fixed terms.

As part of its election strategy, WACOSS has created the WACOSS WA State Election Website

Community service providers and advocates want to ensure that our shared priorities for disadvantaged and vulnerable Western Australians, the services that support them and the wider community are clearly on the election agenda.

WACOSS consulted extensively with the community sector during 2012 to identify priorities and emerging issues for the WACOSS Pre Budget Submission 2013-2014.

These five key priority areas form the basis for the major campaign themes in the five weeks leading up to the election.
Housing & Homelessness – Week 1 (4-8 February)
Sustainable Services & Regions (11-15 February) THIS WEEK
Children, Young People & Families (18-21 February)
People with Complex Needs (25 Feb – 1 March)
Poverty & the Cost of Living (5-8 March)

The WA State Election 2013 website includes key information about priority issues, information about activities and events organised by the Council as well as community organisations and a section on how people can get involved.

WACOSS wrote to the four main parties (Liberals, Nationals, Labor and Greens) and asked them to tell us how their party's policies and election commitments correspond to our five priority areas and the WACOSS Model of Social Sustainability. Their responses, without editing or comment but within a strict word limit, have been included on the website under Party Policies.

New Social Innovation Grant

WACOSS is delighted to thank the State government in its announcement of the $394,000 in funding that we will receive through the Social Innovations Grant (SIG) program.

These funds will better enable WACOSS to work with our diverse sector, supporting our sectors engagement in new technologies and creating a shared space through which we can actively work together. The platform is a means through which different organisations, in different sectors and locations can showcase and search for available opportunities, projects, and resources for innovation and collaboration.
