Click here to read more. Changes to Single Parent Payments and Financial HardshipRecent changes to social security law affecting single parents will hit on 1st January. Single Parents who currently receive Parenting Payment Single (PPS) will no longer be eligible of or when their youngest child turns eight years old. WACOSS is concerned of the impact of this significant reduction in family income for single parents.Click here for more information. Update: Fair Work Australia Equal Remuneration OrderWACOSS has prepared this briefing paper for community service organisations in Western Australia to provide a further update on progress with implementation of the Fair Work Australia (FWA) Equal Remuneration Order (ERO) for community service workers covered by the Federal SCHCDS Award. Sector NewsMeet the febfast Challenge and Support Holyoake's Young People's ProgramFebfast has raised over $4.5 million since 2007 by challenging Australians to take a break from alcohol in February. This year, the funds will help young people who are affected directly and indirectly by substance misuse. Holyoake's Young People's Program (YPP) is one of the beneficiaries. Outstanding young people and youth workers sought for 2013 WA Youth AwardsWestern Australian residents are encouraged to nominate an outstanding young person for the annual WA Youth Awards. The awards, now in their 15th year, were established in 1999 to recognise outstanding young Western Australians aged 12 to 25 years. In 2013 the WA Youth Awards are proudly presented by the Department for Communities in partnership with the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia. The awards are supported by Lotterywest. HepatitisWA is facilitating a new peer support service for people living with hepatitis.The new peer support group assists people achieve better health and well being through discussions and activities. The monthly meetings are confidential, free and provide opportunities to share experiences and thoughts with peers in a friendly and non-judgemental way. Healthy and tasty snacks will be provided. Volunteer Opportunities Now Open!HepatitisWA operates a telephone information & support service which is maintained by volunteer staff, and provides information on hepatitis A, B and C to the general community, and phone support to people affected by hepatitis. Volunteer staff can also participate in our Needle & Syringe Program (NSP) which provides information, equipment and referral to people who chose to inject drugs. Additionally volunteer staff have the opportunity to participate in health promotion and community education events such as University Orientation Days and Health Promotion Fairs at schools and local councils as well as information stalls at Big Day Out and other community events.
