The HESS program provides free home visits by professional and experienced home energy assessors. So if your clients are wondering why their energy bills are high, they don't know what to do about it, and are frightened of being unable to pay the next one coming, then a HESS home visit is for them. New Concessions WA website portal

The WA Government has launched a new website where you can find details on more than 100 concessions, rebates and subsidy schemes provided by the State Government.

The new portal, an initiative WACOSS has been calling for, will make it much easier for citizens to determine their entitlements, or for service providers to assist them.

Shelter WA Housing Options Kit Now Available

With the high cost of housing in WA, it is important that people have useful, accurate information to find the right kind of affordable accommodation. People need to know what to consider and where to go for assistance in seeking crisis or supported accommodation, renting in social housing or the private rental market, and in purchasing a home. Shelter WA's free Housing Options Kit will help connect people to appropriate housing. The kit will be particularly useful to service providers working with people in need of housing, or in need of transitioning from one type of tenure to another such as out of crisis accommodation and into social housing, or from a private rental into affordable home ownership. The statistical profile provides a snapshot of middle years children (aged nine to 14) in Western Australia. The Independent Social Security Handbook

The Welfare Rights Centre Sydney has just produced the 7th edition of the Independent Social Security Handbook. The Handbook provides community welfare workers in the front line with a simple yet comprehensive guide to the main aspects of the social security system so that they can help their clients through the social security maze.

Call to Action: NCYLC forced marriage consultation

The National Children's and Youth Law Centre (NCYLC) is undertaking Australia's first national research into the forced marriage of children entitled Not Yours to Promise. 2013 National Homelessness Services Achievement Awards

The National Homelessness Services Achievement Awards recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions that community organisations make to supporting people who are homeless in our communities. The Awards celebrate excellence and innovation by organisations, services and programs responding to the needs of people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

If your service or organisation, or one you know, has made a significant contribution to addressing homelessness issues—either at a local, regional, state or national level—tell us about it by nominating for a 2013 National Homelessness Services Achievement Award.

CAN WA's Sharing Stories

CAN WA's Sharing Stories funding is available to communities located in the Wheatbelt, Goldfields and Great Southern regions of Western Australia.
Sharing Stories offers up to $5000 towards arts projects that encourage community participation, creative expression and relationship building in a safe environment, with a particular focus on young people.
The Sharing Stories fund is underpinned by Healthway and Relationships Australia's Make Time to Talk message. Make Time to Talk recognises the positive mental and social effects of giving people the opportunity to tell their stories. Projects that focus on young and Indigenous people are encouraged.

United Community Credit Union encourages WA charities to go green

Leading Australian credit union, United Community, has joined forces with not-for-profit carbon consultancy and offset provider, Carbon Neutral, to launch the inaugural Carbon Footprint Reduction Grant Program.

The Carbon Footprint Reduction Grant will assist charitable and not-for-profit organisations to reduce green house gas emissions, adopt sustainable and environmentally responsible practices and consequently improve business efficiency and decrease their electricity cost. Click here to read more.

Sustaining Women's Empowerment in Communities and Organisations' (SWECO) Award

Sustaining Women's Empowerment in Communities and Organisations (SWECO) is now open for applications from Australian women and men and will close on 22nd November 12.

The Australian Centre for Leadership for Women's 'Sustaining Women's Empowerment in Communities and Organisations' (SWECO) Award aims to honour male and female individuals and groups who have developed a sustainable initiative to empower women in a community or organisation.

Established in 2011, SWECO's first round of winners were commended for their leadership, determination and collaboration in establishing significant initiatives for women in the community and in the workplace.

Silent Domestic Violence Memorial March - Friday 23rd November

The Women's Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services have opened invitations to this year's 22nd Annual Silent domestic Violence Memorial march.

The Silent Memorial march is held each year to commemorate and honour people who have died in the past 12 months from family and domestic violence related incidents. Sadly there have been 20 recorded homicides since we marched last year.

2012 Clare Burton Memorial Lecture - Friday 23rd November

For Love …. Well known writers, commentators and co-authors of "The F word: how we learned to swear by feminism" Jane Caro and Catherine Fox will co-deliver this year's Clare Burton Memorial Lecture. They will address modern feminism and the big challenges women still face in the workplace. The lecture promises to be interactive, informative and hopeful. The lecture commemorates and honours the significant contribution of leading researcher, bureaucrat and academic Dr Clare Burton who died in 1998 and is sponsored by the Department for Communities Women's Interest and Curtin. Engaging Young Leaders on Aged Care Boards Information Session - Saturday 24th November

Young Leaders Program is a free program for young people interested in volunteering and sitting on a community organisation Board such as an Aged Care Board. The 5 month program offered at no cost to participants due to State Government funding. The program runs from February - June 2013, 18 - 35 year olds welcome to apply.
