ACNC Bills have passed the Senate
The Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit (ACNC) Bill 2012 to establish a national charity regulator has passed through the Senate with some important amendments from the Australian Greens. The Bill was referred back to the House of Representatives which has today agreed to the Senate amendments. The legislation is now "done and dusted" and will likely take effect in early December 2012. Click here to read more.
JOINT WACOSS & ACOSS MEDIA RELEASE: National community sector meeting calls for certainty on homelessness funding, Tuesday 30th October 2012
The nations' peak Councils of Social Service have called for a clear Federal Government announcement on future funding for chronically under-funded homelessness services in Australia during a national meeting in Perth today.
The future of the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH) remains uncertain despite a positive report from the Western Australian Auditor General on the programs success in this State and amid growing housing pressures.

WACOSS is a part of the Partnership Forum which is responsible for overseeing implementation of the State's Delivering Community Services in Partnership (DCSP) policy. The Partnership Forum has established a Building Skills, Network and Knowledge Working Group which has initiated a Policy Toolkit to help build the policy capacity of the public and community.

Shelter WA, in partnership with WACOSS, Present: Department of Housings' Disruptive Behaviour Policy, the Rights and Obligations of Tenants - Friday 9th November
The Disruptive Behaviour Management Policy (DBMP), reflecting the rights and obligations of tenants, is a revised approach to the disruptive behaviour of a small proportion of public housing tenants. The Western Australian Government is implementing a range of initiatives to strengthen the relationship between the Government, public sector and community sector so as to establish a genuine and collaborative partnership in the delivery of human services to the Western Australian community. WACOSS and Community Employers WA Members' Forum - Thursday 22nd November
Members of CEWA and WACOSS are invited to an update on the December 2012 implementation of the Supplementation of the wage component of the FWA equal pay order.
Supplementation will apply to organisations with relevant Commonwealth contracts who are employing staff under the 'Modern SACS Award' i.e. the Federal 'Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services' (SCHADS) award.

Community Interest: Introducing the ACNC Taskforce YouTube video
The Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission Taskforce has released a third in a series of new videos on YouTube. The video presents the human face of Australia's first independent, national charity regulator.
In the video, Interim Commissioner Susan Pascoe AM outlines her personal aims as the head of the ACNC for when it is finally launched. Assistant Commissioner David Locke explains why he left the UK to join the ACNC, and Murray Baird, Assistant Commissioner, General Counsel, gives his view on how the ACNC will support the not-for-profit sector.

New Concessions WA website portal
The WA Government has launched a new website where you can find details on more than 100 concessions, rebates and subsidy schemes provided by the State Government.
The new portal, an initiative WACOSS has been calling for, will make it much easier for citizens to determine their entitlements, or for service providers to assist them.

Affordable rental housing for city-based workers
The City of Perth "Key City Workers Development" is a 48-unit three storey apartment development in East Perth, specifically aimed at providing affordable rental housing for inner-city workers who earn moderate incomes. Currently under construction, the homes will be rented at below-market rates when complete in mid-2013. Tenants must work within the City of Perth boundaries, meet income limits and satisfy other criteria to be eligible. 2013 National Homelessness Services Achievement Awards
The National Homelessness Services Achievement Awards recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions that community organisations make to supporting people who are homeless in our communities. The Awards celebrate excellence and innovation by organisations, services and programs responding to the needs of people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
If your service or organisation, or one you know, has made a significant contribution to addressing homelessness issues—either at a local, regional, state or national level—tell us about it by nominating for a 2013 National Homelessness Services Achievement Award.

CAN WA's Sharing Stories
CAN WA's Sharing Stories funding is available to communities located in the Wheatbelt, Goldfields and Great Southern regions of Western Australia.
Sharing Stories offers up to $5000 towards arts projects that encourage community participation, creative expression and relationship building in a safe environment, with a particular focus on young people.
The Sharing Stories fund is underpinned by Healthway and Relationships Australia's Make Time to Talk message. Make Time to Talk recognises the positive mental and social effects of giving people the opportunity to tell their stories. Projects that focus on young and Indigenous people are encouraged.

United Community Credit Union encourages WA charities to go green
Leading Australian credit union, United Community, has joined forces with not-for-profit carbon consultancy and offset provider, Carbon Neutral, to launch the inaugural Carbon Footprint Reduction Grant Program.
The Carbon Footprint Reduction Grant will assist charitable and not-for-profit organisations to reduce green house gas emissions, adopt sustainable and environmentally responsible practices and consequently improve business efficiency and decrease their electricity cost. Click here to read more.

Silent Domestic Violence Memorial March - Friday 23rd November
The Women's Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services have opened invitations to this year's 22nd Annual Silent domestic Violence Memorial march.
The Silent Memorial march is held each year to commemorate and honour people who have died in the past 12 months from family and domestic violence related incidents. Sadly there have been 20 recorded homicides since we marched last year.
