MEDIA RELEASE: WACOSS Comments on Carbon pricing impacts, 2nd July

The Council is reasonably confident that the introduction of carbon pricing this week will have minimal immediate impact on most Western Australian households, after taking into account the complementary assistance package, but cost of living pressures in the community remain high.

The vast majority of disadvantaged and vulnerable Western Australians and families living on low and insecure incomes should be adequately compensated for by the assistance package.

Want to know how the carbon price will affect you?

As the carbon pricehas now been implemented, many low and middle income families will be better off with the increase in the tax free threshold changing from $6000 to $18,200. This means that you will not be paying any tax on the first $18,200 you earn in the 2012-13 financial year. To see what the tax changes mean for you visit www.yourcarbonprice.com.au. This website was produce by The Climate Institutes in conjunction with Choice and ACOSS.
