Sue Ash & Chris Hall Recognised in Institute of Public Administration Australia Awards

The Western Australia Institute of Public Administration inaugural Achievement Awards celebrated the best of WA's public service today at a luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Perth.

Congratulations to former WACOSS CEO Sue Ash and Former WACOSS President Chris Hall who were recognised for their hard work in the sector as joint winners of the Leader of the Year Not-for-Profit Sector category.

MEDIA RELEASE: WACOSS Comments on Carbon pricing impacts, 2nd July

The Council is reasonably confident that the introduction of carbon pricing this week will have minimal immediate impact on most Western Australian households, after taking into account the complementary assistance package, but cost of living pressures in the community remain high.

The vast majority of disadvantaged and vulnerable Western Australians and families living on low and insecure incomes should be adequately compensated for by the assistance package.

Non-Government Sector Involvement in Child And Parent Centres On Public School Sites in Low Socio-Economic Communities

Ten Child and Parent Centres are to be established on public school sites in low socio-economic communities. Each Centre will have its own Coordinator, to be provided through the Not-for-profit sector, which will also work with the school to manage the delivery of programs and services at and through the Centres.
The tender process opened on July 9th and briefing sessions will be held on 19th and 20th July.

Consultations on the Parenting Toolkit and Evaluation Framework

The Engaging Families in the ECD Story is a Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth affairs (MCEECDYA) project led by the Department for Education and Child Development (DECD). The project supports the reform priority under the National Early Childhood Development Strategy to engage parents and the community in understanding the importance of early childhood.

Sharing Findings on Costing and Pricing

Human trafficking in Australia Workshop - Wednesday 25th July

This two and half hour introductory level workshop is presented by Australian Red Cross' Support for Trafficked People Program, which works to uphold the health, dignity and wellbeing of people who have been trafficked to Australia by assisting with accommodation, counselling, legal and migration advice, and skills training, including English-language classes and vocational guidance.

Vocational Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution

Fairground Youth Sector Conference 2012 - Thursday 19th - Friday 20th July

YACWA's Fairground takes place every two years as an opportunity for the youth sector to network and share ideas and common experiences whilst focusing on state-wide issues of importance to young people and the sector.

2012 will be the third Fairground conference following similar events in 2008 and 2010. The conference vision is for a youth sector event that is the most topical, relevant and results-orientated youth conference ever held in Western Australia.

The 2012 conference promises to be a professional, policy-driven event that is inspiring, fun and creative. The keynotes will be informative and gritty, the entertainment unique and the program objective based and functional.

HOMING in on the real issues of homelessness - Homeless Persons Week 2012

Homeless Persons Week is on again this year from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th August. The theme for this year is “HOMING in on the real issues of homelessness”.

Homeless Persons Week Soccer Showdown Announced - Tuesday 7th August

Laying dormant for some months, the red-hot rivalry between the Big Issue Street Soccer team and WA Community Workers is set to erupt once again this August in celebration of Homeless Persons Week (HPW). The Community Housing Coalition of WA (CHCWA) and The Big Issue Street Soccer Program are thrilled to invite all prospective community players and spectators to a sporting celebration of the fight against homelessness.
