WACOSS Conference "THE BIG PICTURE" - Latest Announcement

WACOSS is pleased to announce that the Premier of Western Australia, Hon Colin Barnett MLA will deliver the conference opening address.

Last year in an Australian first, Mr Barnett announced the landmark funding decision to invest an additional $604 million into the not for profit sector to support sustainable service delivery and address historical funding shortfalls.

If so we would love to hear it. WACOSS is looking for positive stories around energy efficiency and how it has benefited either yourself or an organisation that you are involved with. It could be that you have done some home handy work to improve the energy efficiency of your home, changed some of you behaviours to reduce your energy costs, or have bought energy efficiency appliances so that you are helping to reduce your carbon footprint. "Creating a Just Future" WA State Conference 24th & 25th October - Call for Papers

$250,000 for telecommunications research & tools for consumers

The 2012 Round of the ACCAN Grants Scheme has opened with $250,000 in funding available for consumer-focused telecommunications research and consumer education or advocacy tools.

Following consultation with the not-for-profit sector, the Australian Government has announced it will extend the start date of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission to 1st October 2012.

Healthier WA Award 2012

The AMA (WA) & Healthway Healthier WA Award recognises WA organisations that have, through a specific venture, project or program, made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of health and wellbeing outcomes which impact across the WA community. A $10,000 grant will be awarded in 2012 to the winner of this prestigious award.

Department for Communities Middle Years - WA Service mapping exercise

As a direct result of the feedback received from the Middle Years Forum in July, the Department for Communities is taking a central role in establishing and strengthening links through sharing middle years information. One of the priorities identified at the Forum was to provide an overview of the services available across Western Australia which work with children aged 9 – 14 years, their parents and families. To prepare this overview the Department are seeking your help in identifying relevant programs and services provided by your organisation.

You are invited to contribute to the middle years' service mapping exercise using the attached information template. The service provision information provided will be collated and distributed through to the Middle Years Email Network early next year and posted on the Communities middle years' webpage.

'Bridges out of Poverty', a professional development workshop for people working with families that have experienced poverty.
It is a most useful workshop for understand the motivation behind many decision making processes of people from various social and economic backgrounds.
This workshop will be held in Armadale, presented by Communicare with the support of the City of Armadale's Champion Centre.
Numbers are limited with priority given to those working in the Armadale area.
