WACOSS Seminar: Impact of Carbon Pricing on the Cost of Living in WA 4th OctoberOn the 10th July, 2011, the Australian Government announced the details of their long awaited Carbon Tax. This announcement included a compensation package for low income households and programs to support the Australian community to transition into a low carbon economy. This seminar will provide participants with an analysis of how the carbon tax and compensation package will impact on specific groups of low income households. There will be further discussion of how the package will affect different pensions and income support payments. It will also look at how we face the challenge of delivering social equity in the transition to a low carbon economy. When: 4th October 2011. WACOSS Media Release: New Seniors Help Centre Welcomed by the Community 23rd SeptemberThe WA Council of Social Service today welcomes the launch of the new Seniors’ Housing Centre, which was officially opened today by Minister for Commerce, Simon O’Brien MLC.The new centre will provide free advice to West Australian seniors looking to change their living arrangements as they move towards retirement. “The centre will provide a valuable service for the growing proportion of West Australians entering retirement,” said CEO, Irina Cattalini. MY LIFE: MY WAY – Self-directed Services Forum Summary and OutcomesThe My Life: My Way self-directed services forum was held on August 10 at the University Club UWA. Over 200 people, including people who use services and representatives from community services organisations and government agencies, participated in the lively World Cafe style forum. The purpose of the forum was to generate ideas about what is needed for self-directed services to be expanded across the community and human services sector in Western Australia.
