WACOSS Social Policy

WACOSS seeks to be a positive influence on policies that promote the wellbeing of all Western Australians.

Current Policy Priorities
There are many social issues that need urgent attention by the community services sector.  So, we prioritise our policy work by sector demand, member feedback and under direction of the WACOSS Board.

Currently our priority policy areas are:

Sector Viability

The WACOSS Social Policy Unit also undertakes policy work in the following social issues areas:

Emergency Relief
Housing & Homelessness

Consumer Protection

State Taxes, Fees, Charges & Concessions
Essential Services: Energy & Water
Transport
Health
Indigenous Issues
Multicultural Interests
Young People
Criminal Justice & Crime Prevention
Education & Employment
Domestic & Family Violence
Disability Services
Sustainability
Women
Human Rights
State Budget

Policy Development
Policy development at WACOSS is currently informed by a number of processes. We have a 'policy bank' of established positions including key documents such as Pre-Budget Submissions and pre-election campaign documents, along with media releases, reports, submissions and letters addressing a wide range of social policy issues. In addition, our policy work is also informed by our representation on external committees, groups and forums convened by WACOSS, internal corporate planning processes, ongoing research and informal networks.
